Christmas…come and gone

Just like every year, we plan and plan, shop and cook in preparation for Christmas Day and all of a sudden the day has come and gone. Don’t get me wrong, I look forward to the day but then I am glad to see it done too. This year was the same as previous years as we did our annual Christmas brunch with my oldest son and then on to Tallassee for Christmas dinner with my wife’s side of the family.

On a another note, it’s CFP week as the Alabama Crimson Tide football team looks to take on the Michigan Wolverines in a playoff game on New Years Day. We will have radio coverage beginning at 1p. If they win, then it’s on to the National Championship game on Monday January 8th with game coverage TBD.

It’s a a short week for us and hopefully you too so enjoy it!

Back from vacation!

First off, a big thank you to Kelley Stone for filling-in for me last week as I took some time off. No big trips or getaways, just a lot of rest and relaxation plus a little golf, of course. Basically, I had vacation days that DON’T rollover so it was “use them or lose them”. Regardless, it was good to just relax and not have to deal with the daily grind.

We are just days away from Christmas and as some of you, I still have a few gifts to buy mostly for my grandkids. The way my wife and I do it is that she buys for the girls and I buy for the boys. I know what they want because they sent me pictures…lol. So, it should be a simple shopping experience whenever I get around to doing it this week.

Hope you have a great week!

Camellia Bowl/ESPN

My annual duties with ESPN and the Camellia Bowl are coming soon but this year things have changed just a bit. Basically, instead of doing the Fan Fest on Saturday morning before the game I will also be busy throughout the week. So, here we go…it all starts on Tuesday with a welcome dinner for the sponsors where I will provide emcee and music, on Wednesday and Thursday I will host the 2 teams for dinner and karaoke at the RCA Activity Center and then on Friday it’s the pep rally where I will provide emcee and music. It’s going to be a busy week but I am so excited to be a part of it! If you have the opportunity, please purchase tickets and come out and show your support. Plus, we can show the country how much we love our college football in Montgomery, Alabama, as the game will be televised on ESPN.

I am taking my holiday break this week and Kelley Stone will be covering for me on the air. Not really going anywhere, just taking some time to relax. Now, I will be playing a lot of golf IF Mother Nature will cooperate!

Have a great week!

Toy Hill 2023/SEC Championship

This past weekend was the 27th annual Toy Hill. I was on location at Sons Automotive from Friday at 5p through Sunday at 5p. It was another successful weekend of collecting toys with the US Marines Toys for Tots program and I am so thankful for all of you that stopped by. A huge thank you to our sponsors…Sons Automotive, Clark’s RV, Hole In The Wall Coffee Shop, Texas Roadhouse, The Murphy Family Restaurants/McDonalds and Chappy’s Deli. Also, a huge thank you to our Cumulus staff that stepped up to help me this weekend…August Grant, April Taylor, Josh Hartin, John Garrett, Paul Horton, Hiawatha McQueen, Sherry Ray, Sonya Thompson and Dela McBrayer.

As is tradition with Toy Hill weekend, in most years, the Alabama Crimson Tide football team played in the SEC Championship game this past Saturday taking on the #1 team in the country, The Georgia Bulldogs. It was a GREAT game with Alabama coming out on top, 27-24. On Sunday, the CFP announced their Top 4 and Alabama made it in at #4 and will now play Michigan on New Years Day. Our radio coverage will begin at 1p.

Have a great week!
